Passover and the Miracle of Salvation
The English translation of Exodus 12:6 is given this way:
“And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.”
The literal Hebrew translation for “evening” is “between two evenings.”
Now, isn’t it amazing, when you dig deeply into the treasures of the Bible, you find that the Lamb of God died between two evenings?
Look in Mark 15:33, which illuminates our understanding of what happened:
“And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.”
He was nailed to Calvary’s tree at nine in the morning. At twelve noon, which the Jews referred to as the sixth hour, something strange happened. Darkness came over the land and it lasted until three in the afternoon, or the ninth hour, the hour our Master died.
He literally fulfilled the prophecy in Exodus 12:5 and died between the first and second evening, or darkness, for after His death, the sun rose again, and then the sun set again at the regular hour.
What amazes me is that the Pharisees who stood there knew the law down to the last jot and tittle. How could they see one evening come and go in three hours, then another evening show up three hours later, and still choose to be blinded to the fact that Jesus Christ was the Passover Lamb of God? It shows you how thick their blindness was. That’s why it takes the Holy Spirit to reveal Christ to all of us who are blinded by sin and tradition. That’s why it is such a miracle when each of us sees our need for the Savior and believes on Him.
We are not saved through our own understanding. We are not brought into the kingdom through any worth or merit. It is only through the power of the Holy Spirit:
“And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1).
It’s so important to realize that your salvation is the greater miracle! It is greater than raising the dead, greater than making the sun stand still, and greater than the cleansing of lepers. You salvation is life’s greatest miracle, for it was given by God the Father in fulfillment of all the Scriptures, down to the smallest prophecy and promise.
Because of the miracle of salvation, you no longer have to live in spiritual darkness. You are no longer subject to Satan. Your name is listed no more among the damned but is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. When you were saved, with the swivel of His hand, God moved every demon away from you so you could see the light. In fact, your salvation was a greater miracle than the raising of Lazarus. It was a greater miracle than when Joshua asked God to make the sun stand still. Your salvation, just yours, is greater than all the miracles in the Bible. To Jesus be the glory and honor!
