The Importance of Reading The Bible
King Solomon, a name synonymous with wisdom, once wrote:
“It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter” (Proverbs 25:2).
God’s glory is concealed through His Word, but the believer, as a kingly priest, can see His glory revealed by careful searching. God’s Word is a treasure to be discovered. The deep truths cannot always be mined by merely scratching on the surface.
When you study the Bible with an open mind, it’s truly an amazing adventure to see all God has provided. Everywhere, it seems, the Father has given guideposts which point toward the ultimate treasure, His Son, Jesus Christ.
To mine these eternal riches, even as with earthly jewels or precious ore, you are required to dig beneath the surface. That’s why it is so important to ask the Father to give supernatural wisdom as you search the Word for fresh, priceless, life-giving resources every day.
I love the great hymns of the church. They lift our heads to glory as we worship the King. A hymn, simply titled, “The Word of God” was written in the early 1900’s which helps us remember the importance of Gods’ unfailing Word in our daily lives:
The Word of God is strong and sure,
Forevermore it shall endure,
When oceans cease to kiss the shore,
When suns shall set to rise no more;
’Mid crash of worlds it shall remain
Unshaken midst the starry rain,
Upon its firm foundation strong,
I will plant my feet thro’ the ages long.
